this is absolutely the coolest video. did i already share this? it's neat enough to share again, if i did. this cute guy and gal showed her pregnancy the whole way through -- in 90 seconds. i wish they'd do another one of the little girl's first year. kudos to them for being excellent!

excellent summary

this is the most-well-done pregnancy video i've seen. actually i don't remember seeing any others, but this one wins, hands-down. i just wish i'd be able to see pictures of the kid, month-by-month, for the first three years.

different cultures

babies. there's a new movie, that i believe was just released, about babies. the film maker followed four babies from different parts of the world during their first year. i imagine there are some cute parts, and some icky parts, and some things which will make me wonder how humans have survived. i'd like to see it on the big screen.

a new baby!!

on tuesday, december 15, adam jeffrey was born. he was 8 lb. 15 oz., with dark hair and eyebrows, and a very quiet demeanor. he's been a very good baby with his only demands being to be fed and to be held.

big sister is happy around, and interested in, little brother and all is well. paternal grandparents stayed with the family for five days and maternal grandparents are visiting today.

it will be interesting to see who adam ends up looking like -- ava's looks seemed to change so much from day one, just like babies tend to do. she is a pretty and absolutely darling little kid and with such good-looking parents, i expect adam will be a little heartbreaker.

however it turns out, everyone is healthy and happy. a good start to any type of endeavor!

let's play

the daughter-in-law and grandaughter came up friday afternoon and spent the weekend -- it was great! just us girls (husband spent the days at work) doing things and relaxing and taking it easy.

My Older Son was camping with friends but she just wasn't up to that busy and do-without activity. we went to hovander park in ferndale and climbed the tower, walked through the garden, and peeked in the windows of a lovely old house.

later the husband and i took grandaughter and went to the marina to look at boats. then we went to marine park and played with the whale tail and various other whale parts immortalized forever in black-and-white metal and cemented into the ground. it was great fun -- yay, weekend!!

all the news...

wow -- there's so much to get caught up on ....

one of our little group went to the hospital two weeks ago doubled over in pain. they thought it was appendicitis, then something else, then decided at last that it was diverticulitis. and they operated.

he finally got to come back to work for three hours today. he lost 25 pounds and wasn't overweight to begin with. it was good to see him back and hopefully he will progress just as quickly as he expects to. then in about a month, if he's in good shape, they have to operate again!! that surgery will allow them to dispense with the bag he has to wear now. we're all hoping that it proceeds as a textbook case and that he's back to normal in no time!

in the meantime, for the rest of us, a high fiber diet is the key to staying away from that condition.

in other news my recently-retired big boss came by the other day. she looked great!! but -- the rascal was wearing blue jeans!! sure, rub our noses in it, missy ....

and, to my surprise, i worked 25 hours overtime last payperiod (80 hrs + 25). i was so busy i didn't even realize it was that much. it has been just grueling lately, trying to complete deadlines, attending to insistent visitors, trying to accommodate the new big boss, and keeping up with my changing duties. it's been exhausting. and even though a new break-in period like this comes with confusion and change, all too often the big guys forget how much they depend on the little guys, thus they can easily over-look that the little guys are being worn down to the nubbins. hey, pay attention....

one final note -- we got to see the grandaughter and her parents last weekend!! it was an especially nice treat because our son announced they're expecting another baby! joy abounds!!

i am delighted to share that one of our computer gurus had a baby! well, his wife did, actually. little andrew raymond b. joined us last tuesday weighing 7 lbs 3 oz. i thought he wasn't going to show up until early may, but here he is!

congrats all the way around!!!

remember me talking about the triplets that are related to the big boss? they are almost 6 months old now and are just darling.

it will be fun to watch them grow, from afar.

coincidental events

My Older Son and daughter-in-law had an unusual experience earlier this week. she had emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. they didn't even know she was pregnant until the morning of the surgery. she'd been having some bleeding, then started feeling a lot of pain. after seeing several doctors, they admitted her, and decided to do the surgery that afternoon.

she lost about 5 liters of blood (it had collected in her abdominal area), but they got the situation under control and she came home the next day. her mom went over to stay and help out.

the grandaughter's first birthday party is sunday (the birthday is really monday) and dau-in-law still wanted to have it, so we're heading down tomorrow. it will be fun and if dau-in-law needs to rest that won't be a problem.

the grandaughter is getting big and is into everything. she's a smart little puppy and i expect that won't change. they're going to need to be on their toes to keep up with her.

since they hadn't realized about the pregnancy, it wasn't traumatic to lose the baby. a friend told me that the same time dau-in-law was having her experience, my friend's son and girlfriend (who was 5 months along) lost their baby. s and r were very upset about it and since the baby was beyond 20 weeks old, a funeral service needed to be involved. they handled the whole thing in a very spiritual way which i loved hearing about. s is a very sensitive young man and i figure he will work through the experience just fine. i haven't met r, but i'm sure she's a lovely person -- a perfect complement to a wonderful young man. it just wasn't their time yet.

and the universe marches on.

my weekend

don't you just love three-day weekends? you have an extra day to just do whatever you want. except they somehow fill up and you may or may not get to just lay around and do nothing. but still .... three days!

we went to see the grandaughter yesterday. she's growing so quickly. and cute!! she is adorable! and smart!! she is walking by herself (took off at 9 1/2 months) and saying words (she's 10 1/2 months now) like mama, dada, and lamp! they aren't crystal-clear yet, but by the time they are she may be reading the dictionary.

i simply cannot wait to see what she decides to do as an adult!

a wonder to behold

we had company last weekend -- the grandaughter and her parents came up. she is just so adorable! she's got a great smile and is just delightful. and i think she's pretty strong-willed, too. if we hold her hands so she can walk around, if she wants to go a different direction she just turns her head and shoulders and expects you to go with her. kind of a reverse powering steering option. hard to explain, but really funny to experience!

i can't wait to see what she's like when she's grown! a space pilot? a professor of alien artifacts? director of a galactic battalion? she's a pretty smart cookie for 9 months -- we shall see!

jouncy, bouncy girl

we went down to visit the kids and grandaughter yesterday. it was lovely -- a sunny day, happy baby, smiling parents. we ate thai food and drove around a bit. spent time talking and laughing and holding a soft, wiggly, smiling, beautiful baby.

it was great.
