a very long involved dream

i just had the most amazing dream.  i was in a college town and it was autumn, and my mother and i were going to look at a house that i might be renting.  we walked in and i could see that it had the exact layout of a house in one of my dreams from long ago -- a house i had walked through in canada which had an unusual layout but i had liked it.  at any rate, the owners, an older woman and her husband, were nice and i was happy enough with the place, but when i asked about an internet connection, she said there wasn’t one.  well.  no way was i going to rent a place, especially for 948 dollars, which didn’t have an internet connection.  then she said, let me show you the basement.  so we went downstairs and there was a main room which was very nice, and even had a kitchen area, and a second room with a bed.  since there were already three bedrooms upstairs, i really wasn’t interested in a fourth bedroom , but then she took me farther back into another room which had an old-fashioned sewing machine and a bunch of fabric.  i was really interested in the sewing machine, but she took me farther back into a room which was a canning room -- it was so cool with a large old-fashioned sink area and huge metal table, and then her husband took me farther back into a shop area.  he opened up a side door, and we went into a storage area for the shop that was jam-packed full of items he might use -- it was fascinating.  then we went farther back into another room and i have forgotten what that room had, but there were windows and we were no longer under the main house but way out by the street, so that we had a great view when a parade went by!  so i went back to the main basement room and talked with the lady.  i asked her if she would get an internet connection, but she said no, and i thought she was going to tell me to live my life for awhile without the internet to see what i could learn.  so i said that if i paid for the internet connection, would they allow that.  and she finally said yes.  so i was going to get the $948 apartment plus pay for an internet connection, plus i hadn’t asked about utilities, and i couldn’t quite figure out how i was going to afford everything on my take-home pay of $2000 a month.  but i decide i really wanted to help her when she started canning and we talked about that for awhile.  i said that i liked yukon gold and reds better than those brown potatoes, and she said that was okay, it wouldn’t matter.  i was going to talk with her about the sewing machine, but then she showed me some perfume that was on the downstairs dresser.  it was in a teeny tiny bottle and was the perfume of my life.  it fit me perfectly.  i tried some on and realized i was going to have to find some of my own and i laid down on the bed and fell asleep.  sometime during the night i woke up and realized there was someone way over on the far side of the bed, but i didn’t know him and shrugged and fell back asleep.  when i woke up, i decided i had to get some of that perfume, so the husband and i decided to go to the mall.  i handed him the perfume and asked if he could figure out the name of it and the maker.  i finished putting on make-up and looked into the mirror.  my makeup was perfect and i looked so pretty -- almost like i was in my 20s again.  the husband said he couldn’t find anything so i took the tiny bottle and looked and looked.  finally i saw ‘clairol’  WHAT?!  what an ordinary company for such a perfect perfume!  so we went to the mall and looked around.  i walked into the conference center and was amazed by how lush the area was.  there was a centerpiece of a ship, surrounded by a velvet tier of seating.  two men were playing as naked statues.  since i was one of the hotel organizers, i started to talk with them, but then the rest of the group came into the area, and everyone was talking and mingling and drinking.  the naked men got down and left to get dressed, and i stepped back from the seating area and turned to the 50-foot long table with stately seating and beautiful place settings, flowers, tablecloth, and silver utensils.  i turned and walked up the two stairs in my 4-inch heels and evening business suit which occasionally showed a glimpse of leg up to the top of my thigh.  an attendee beckoned me over and handed me some silver utensils.  “would you please find jon hall and return these to him?  he left them behind.”  since it was part of  my job, i said yes, but thought ‘i have so many other things to do’.  and i didn’t even know jon hall.  but i started walking around, trying to figure out who might be a jon hall.  i asked several men, but they said no.  i wandered out of the conference area and directly into the luxurious bar, dark with lots of masculine wood and fabrics and overstuffed chairs, finally asking one of the waitresses.  she said he was over in that group.  so i started over but before i could get there, a man rushed in and hurriedly talked with jon hall and they rushed out of the room together.  i tried to follow in their direction, pushing through the well-dressed crowds of people.  i finally got to the behind-the-scenes hallway which ended in a back stair, vending machines, and elevator.  they had gone up the stairs and i could hear them talking.  i stopped and listened, but they had been drinking and weren’t making much sense.  then one of them said he thought he heard something and they started back my way.  i quickly went to one of the vending machines and looked at the selections.  one of the two approached me and started being belligerent.  i played dumb and they finally went away.  i headed up to my room in the hotel, bending backwards over a rounded shoulder-high walker as i approached my room down the long hallway -- the walker was a good thing to exercise your back.  when i got to my room, the door was open a couple of inches.  i entered the room slowly, but it looked okay...two queen-size beds and a dresser with beautiful curtains made up in heavy gorgeous fabrics.  i sat down on the bed to think, and abruptly a detective came out of the bathroom.  he started smoothly talking with me and i realized it was bad.  i gathered myself and calmly said it was a frame-up.  i was being set up.  then i woke up.

i know EXACTLY where this came from

so i'm driving through this beautiful wooded area and my mom says, "i bought a restaurant."  "WHAT?" "it was a nice place and only $35,000." i go into the kitchen which is adjacent to a large room which has fold-up tables and fold-up chairs with many windows and sunshine streaming in.

the L-shaped kitchen is a mess, with dishes everywhere (clean as well as dirty), a grill and stove somewhere, two small refrigerators along one wall. mom says she bought it yesterday and i'm thinking there's a lot to do and didn't the people even WASH the dishes before they sold it so i start washing them while the others are standing and talking. then mom finishes frying three eggs, two large and one small, and sprinkles them with some strands of green/white stuff and tells me to take them to the people who are waiting.

i go into the dining room and it's filled with people. i have no idea who gets the eggs, so i wander over to a table of three and ask them if they ordered eggs. they smile and say yes, so i lay down the plates. as i start back to the kitchen, i notice there are several other tables of three people. oh crap! but everyone is talking and no one seems concerned except for one guy sitting by himself. i go over and ask if he's been helped and he says no, but he'd like an egg.

so i go back to the kitchen, which is heaped with dirty dishes again, and look for the grill which has disappeared. i have to clean off a surface to find the grill, then open a frig to look for eggs. there's no eggs in there, just a whole bunch of different kinds of cheeses i've never heard of. finally i spot a large object which looks like an egg covered in a number of layers of brown mud. i pick it up, turn around to the grill, crack the shell and an egg comes out but it proceeds to go from plenty of egg to almost no egg, which i'm desperately trying to fry before it disappears completely. it doesn't take long for it to be done and i open the frig again looking for the green and white 'sprinkles'. i can't find them anywhere. i close the frig and ask mom where they are. she says i'll have to find them myself. i say can't you help me figure all this out? and she says nobody told me anything, you just have to figure it out yourself.

so i head for the dining room with this ridiculously-small egg with sprinkles and just outside the kitchen door is the man i'm headed for. he smiles and says he's run out of time and has to go and i turn back and grab half of a kolache and a napkin and say you need to eat something and as i'm handing it to him, he says thanks and takes a piece of cinnamon toast off the plate in my other hand, saying he'll take that too. my benevolence is suddenly affronted by his nerve, but he walks out and i think well maybe he'll be back sometime and actually pay for a meal.

i go back in the kitchen and try to organize things, but everytime i get a space cleaned off and start on another, it fills up again. i head over to the sink but i can't find it. finally i have to lift up a couple of counter-covers and try to start washing dishes. someone says they'd like to use the bathroom but they don't know where it is. i ask my mom and she says it's through the door and around the corner. i go through the dining room, through the door into a messy bedroom and around a corner into the bathroom which has a couple of kids taking a bubble bath. there are toys everywhere and i'm surprised the public has to use this bathroom.

the dream goes on with old friends of my mom stopping by to chat and finally i decide to just take a break. i don't see how i can keep helping her with this place when i have a life of my own, but if i don't help her she won't be able to get it done. as i walk down the street, i finally have a look at the town. her restaurant is on a little side-street which joins the main drag which is only about a block long. it's jam-packed with businesses and restaurants. i walk to the end and can see that a company is excavating a huge mountain with large pieces of equipment and rock-blasting going on and desecration of the earth, etc.

i turn back down the street and notice new construction. aha! that's why those people wanted to sell the restaurant -- after the new place got built, their business was going to die. that's exactly what's going to happen to my mom's business and what then? does she just close her doors? what about paying taxes on the place? so much to worry about in this bustling tiny town in the middle of a wooded nowhere with big business bearing down.

my brood

MOS and his family visited us last weekend. it was soooooo nice. the grandaughter is almost 3 1/2 and the grandson is14 months. they are so cute and smart, of course, and delightful handfuls to have around. we enjoy their parents too, it goes without saying, and their visits always make me wish we lived closer to them.

at the same time i wish we lived closer to MYS. it's a tough deal for a parent who enjoys her kids so much.

i know! they can all move in on my block! that'd work! well, for me, anyhow.

be careful of being helpful

i just had the worst dream. i was in a small strip mall area and had lunch at a small restaurant. the owners were busy and some of the tables needed to be wiped off, so i got a dish rag and wiped the empty tables before i left.

i went down the street to another restaurant, a small diner, that an asian couple owned. i really liked them and, of course, their food, and had told them i’d watch their place while they ran an errand. it was afternoon so they hadn’t expected many customers.

i went in and sat at one of the tables just enjoying the sunshine and the quiet. then i got up and went over to the sink, which was next to a small refrigerator and a george foreman grill. those items constituted their kitchen.

the husband came in and sat at one of the tables, just to enjoy the day. then three burly guys in suits came in and said they were going to wait for the owners. then a whole bunch of people came in and filled up the rest of the tables but from what i could hear they were there for a meeting, so i happily announced that if any of them decided they wanted something to eat, to just let me know.

one of the tables of eight said they wanted menus. i passed them out and went back to the kitchen area. i figured i should at least put water on every table even if they weren’t going to order, so i opened the overhead cabinet and found a number of small water pitchers filled with water and ice, so i took several of them and started distributing them. then i remembered i better put glasses all around, but everyone had already gotten their own.

i went back to get more pitchers, but couldn’t find anymore. and the natives were getting restless. i kept looking and found some vases, but no more pitchers. crap. and then one of the ladies took the bag of ice and started filling the glasses at her table until the bag was empty. i knew we didn’t have anymore ice. crap.

i figured i’d better go over and get the orders from the table of eight so i headed over there, realized i didn’t have anything to write on, went back and searched for paper, and went back to the table. the first person said she wanted something i’d never heard of, and she had to show me on the menu. the next person ordered a hamburger for him and his two grandaughters. i suggested since it would be bedtime soon that maybe they’d just want water rather than pop to drink. the mothers smiled at me. the next person ordered something i couldn’t even figure out what she was saying. i thought it was ‘beam’ or ‘dean’ but when she showed me on the menu it was ‘faur’ and i just thought WHAT am i doing here???!!!

so i went back over to the kitchen area and before i even thought about the fact there was no way i could fix food for ANYone, the owners came back. as i was telling them about everything, i woke up. thank god!

where did this come from?

dreams are so weird. the husband and i had been traveling around the world (which would in itself be weird) and i had noticed that no matter where we traveled, the trees were always different. they didn't look like the trees back home, yet they were still trees and some were really pretty.

when we got back home, we gave a lecture (i think it was on the lincoln campus) to 70 or 80 thousand people about the trees we had seen. i remember there were so many people that we decided to walk up and down the rows so people could hear us better and we ended up walking through a tiny bedroom with blue carpet and one window. we went to the window to finish up and i leaned out and asked if there were any questions. i could only see about 30 of the multitude, but one guy asked a question so i answered.

at some point, we left that building and were going over to the parking garage, probably to get our car although i don't know why since we had another lecture in a little bit. at any rate, the husband had to go back to the room to get something and i walked slowly through the garage. an officer stopped several people, including me, and finally let them go but said i had to go with him. we walked up to the next level, which was the top, and i said i needed to call my husband and let him know where i was. the officer said i couldn't do that. about that time the husband came walking down the sidewalk and i waved and said hi. he looked around for the stairs so he could come up and the officer got irritated. i told him i wanted to see his credentials and he refused. i asked where his name tag was and he got angry. i said i wasn't going anywhere with him since i thought he was an imposter and i turned around to head for the stairs. then i woke up.

uh, oh ....

and speaking of tornadoes .... i had a dream a number of nights ago about tornadoes.

i was in the living room of a house against a hill, with a couple of people, and we heard a loud, long-lasting siren going off outside. i asked what it was and someone casually said it was a tornado alert. no one seemed concerned and i asked if we shouldn't take cover. they talked about going into various closets and i said i was probably going to go down in the basement. i decided to look outside and saw a HUGE rotating cloud, on the ground, just a little ways away. it was like a gigantic round barn and had to have been two miles across. i was fascinated and wondered where my camera was. then i remembered i could take a picture with my cell phone, even if i could never get the picture off the phone. so i opened the glass door of the glassed-in porch i was standing in and leaned out with my phone to take the pix. right about that time a house came flying out of the sky and slammed to the ground, sliding right down the street. i thought maybe it was time for me to take cover, so as i turned to close the glass door and get back into the room-with-three-walls-of-glass (which was standing by itself in a flat, quasi-business area), i saw a second tornado about 2 blocks away headed straight in my direction. fortunately for me, the fourth wall of the room had a closet with sliding doors, so i got in the closet, stopping only to pull the dresser against my side of the closet, and closed the door. then i scrunched down and woke up.

oh noes!

i was late this morning. late for waking, that is. when it got to be 40 minutes later than the usual time i put in an appearance and i still hadn't shown my bleary face, the husband rousted me out of this really great dream.

every-once-in-a-while i dream about getting food in a cafeteria. one of the places in my dreams has this really great selection of cinnamon rolls. not the crap that you can get in the malls, but the old-fashioned kind we used to get in the school cafeteria. this place seems to be a hospital, rather than a school, but the food is outstanding.

last night's dream, however, took place in the student union of my alma mater. it had almost the same layout, too, but, as dreams usually are, there were differences. at any rate, this cafeteria had a lot of stuff -- several islands full -- and what i had finally decided on, after wandering all over to view the different selections, was a piece of prime rib and a potato with a little bit of gravy and salad on the side. that was exactly when the husband woke me up!

whoa was me.

i want to be there

i was on this busy downtown street and decided to go down a side street. it was a lot less populated. then i saw angelina jolie and brad pitt playing with their kids in front of a multi-story building while various neighborhood people did their own thing, not bothering the famous people. it was a nice typical small-town scene and i liked it. then somehow the dream changed and there were two babies and two mommas inside a house and i was helping with the babies (everything was serious and dark and one of the babies cried a lot), but then i went outside and was looking at flowers along the front sidewalk with my husband and couple of other people when five serious-looking men walked up. they said they wanted to see the house and i said just a minute and poked my nose in the front door (of a completely different house from the one i’d walked out of) asking our friend the owner if he knew about people wanting to see the house. he said, “see if the agents will stay out while the buyers come in” and i thought ‘huh???’, then he and his wife started madly gathering up toys and stuff, grabbing two of the three dogs and making their way toward the back of the house, gathering as they went. i turned to the people and said, “do you agents want to wait here while the others go on inside?” and the agents looked at me like ‘don’t be a total stupid idiot.’ so then, followed by everyone, i turned and went inside, grabbing the collar of the great dane and two of his huge play toys and made my way to the back of the house where everyone else was just heading out the back door. i went out the door and .... wow! it was a gorgeous winter day with about three feet of snow on everything and tons of people outside merrily enjoying the snow and sun. there was park land on both sides of the street and many people were skiing down the sloped street to the bottom, so i went into the street and started skate-skiing with only my boots. it worked perfectly!! i gently skied down the street, totally enjoying the freedom, totally relaxed, and totally marveling that i’d never done this before. people were talking on the sidewalks, and gathered on decks and porches -- there was a lovely gather-the-humanity-and-let’s-party feeling to the day. when i got to the bottom, i walked back up the sidewalk, noticing one fellow and his friends on a second-story deck just after they had hit a golf ball and were watching it soar, and i was wondering how they were going to be able to see it unless it was painted one of those phosphorescent colors. then i went out in the street to continue walking back up the hill along with everyone else. some young guy and his girlfriend said “where are your skis” and i said “i used my boots but i need to get a pair of those things (his poles).” they smiled and went on, but i turned around to ski again, suddenly realizing i had walked too far. it was a very steep slope at that point, so i walked back down to a more appropriate level and started to ski again when some wicked voice in my head said, “picture this: you’re skiing along and hit pavement or a rough spot and then go flying end-over-end. you’d get hurt.” at that point i woke up, but what a shame to have that lovely experience left on a stern note of joy-kill.

it all makes sense at the time....

dreams!! honestly, they are so weird!

so last night i dreamed i was at work merrily going along doing my stuff when all of a sudden i realized i had on blue jeans (horrors!) and no shirt!! the blue jeans were bad enough (we aren't supposed to even THINK about wearing blue jeans to work -- black jean, brown jeans, whatever other color and only on fridays, but not blue jeans no matter how nicely pressed) but no shirt?? how could i have let that happen??? i mean, it wasn't a sexual thing since cancer put an end to my boobies, but still -- highly inappropriate!! i couldn't figure out why no one had said anything -- did they think i had on a flesh-colored shirt?? regardless, when i finally realized what i was (and wasn't) wearing i was just sick about it. i could take a 15-minute break and try to do something, but it wouldn't be enough time for me to go home and grab something else to wear and get back to work since my apartment was twenty minutes away through city traffic.

it just worried me sick so i went to my room at work and went to bed. my room had a nice small bathroom, a nice bed and dresser and closet, and several work stations. mike was on the computer at one work station and had to go to the second floor. i was laying there worriedly trying to figure out my dilemma when the big boss walked in. he was looking for someone and i thought i remembered he had to go out-of-town for several days, so i asked him about it. the covers were pulled up to my chin so i knew he wouldn't be able to see the jeans-and-no-shirt situation. we talked for a little bit and then he left.

i finally got up, realized i had clothes right there i could change into, and went in to take a shower. but there wasn't any soap. so i got back in bed and found the tube of soap on a pillow. so i laid there and lathered up my shoulders and hair, then got back in the shower to rinse off. it really was a nice little shower with a small window and no shower curtain. then i woke up.

WHAT was that????

z-z-z-z-z ...

and since i've been so busy at work, i've been dreaming like crazy at night.

last night i had a bunch of dreams, one of which involved living in a different house. it was a nice older neighborhood with nice wooden houses and nice yards. i don't remember much except that we lived in the third house from the corner, then my dream went somewhere else, then the dream went back and i had switched to living in the house on the corner. i couldn't figure out what had happened, but i liked the one on the corner better. and i didn't like the guy who was in the middle. i think i dreamed about the house because i had been looking at houses for sale in anchorage and found this absolutely darling house with a big yard on a corner. the problem was that it sat in an area which had a lot of businesses around it. too bad.

the next dream i had was the husband and myself going back to work as air traffic controllers. i can't remember what facility we were at, but after working one airplane, i decided i didn't want to be a controller after all. i wanted to be an instructor. then i woke up.

dream last night

i was in a shopping area alongside which ran a very busy street which was under construction. the shopping area had street vendors along with busy stores and i was walking past things for sale when i noticed a hot-air balloon coming down to land.

it was a beautiful day with no wind and the balloon was set to land across the street in a pasture. when the gondola touched down, all that forward motion translated into splintered motion and the gondola with its twelve passengers sort of bubbled and bounced around for a bit, like a drop of water on a hot skillet.

another one was coming in to land but i resumed my walking and found myself going by the american indians who had the hot-air balloon business. the balloons were laying right there by the roadway, unfilled, waiting for the next passengers so they could inflate. i remember thinking the balloons weren't big at all, only about 12-15 limp feet long, with a couple of eagle feathers on the top.

dream 4

i was talking with someone about a horror movie and proceeded to show them that one of the buildings on campus had a basement which went down several flights underground, the final flight being a narrow, vertical shaft which was sunk much farther underground. as i was explaining, i remembered i'd seen this building in some of my dreams before.

i knew i didn't want to watch the horror movie, so i went to value village and looked around. i discovered some spoons i thought i could use, so picked them up, and continued looking around. there were two complete sets of old-family silver wonderfully wrapped in that bunting which protects silver from discoloration, but the patterns were very ornate and i didn't think mike and his fiancee would like them.

i kept browsing, found a pair of earrings i liked, then bought everything and continued looking. i was surprised to find an old friend convalescing in a bed in the clothing section and talked with him a little bit. he had broken his leg but didn't seem in a hurry to leave the store.

all of a sudden i realized i didn't have my package anymore. i looked all around and re-traced my steps, but couldn't find where i had put it down. dangit!! someone had lifted my stuff! and after i'd already paid for it!

i was very bummed and wondered what this world is coming to that someone would steal something from someone in value village. as i started to leave, i walked by the cashier and, sitting amid a pile of clothes, was my package. she had wrapped it in brown paper after i'd paid, and apparently i'd wandered off before she was finished so she left it on the table for me. someone hadn't stolen it after all.

dream 3, remnants

we had moved to a new place -- lots of rolling hills and country lanes. for some reason i was having a hard time learning the layout of the new area, even as i thought back to issaquah and knew how confusing that area had been and this new area was much more straight forward.

regardless, i had gone walking in the country just outside the new town which brought to mind my grandmother's little town in oklahoma. i found myself going back into town a different way and came to a stop at a busy street with a boulevard and a traffic light.

i was dressed in walking shoes, hose, a skirt, blouse, jacket, and scarf. the light changed and i started out but when i got half-way across, the light changed and i had to wait on the boulevard. there was a protected area that i stood within -- a metal framework with canvas tarps on the sides and top.

while i was waiting, a huge long truck pulling steel girders started to turn around the corner and i could tell he was going to brush into the framework i was waiting under. i quickly darted outside and into another waiting area closeby. the truck went on and a second truck started turning. as it went around the corner and picked up speed, i realized i was on that truck, along with several other people who were calmly discussing their jobs. but of course it was part of the truck -- that canvas-enclosed metal-framework area had seats.

we were probably up to 35 mph by now and i leaned out past the canvas trying to decide if i could easily jump off onto the beautiful treed boulevard, but decided not since i had on hose and would probably fall and roll along, getting my clothes all messed up. so i started waving toward the driver, trying to get his attention before we got out of town (in the next block) and picked up some serious speed. i mean, where would i end up and how would i get back??

he must have seen me because the truck started slowing and as i prepared to jump off as efficiently as i could, i woke up.

dream 2

The husband and I, in a last minute decision, were going to dinner with some old friends and we had to hurry, so I tossed on some jeans, a shirt, and my coat, and the four of us got in the car.

We had to stop by my folks’ house and hubby went up to get something. Then I realized I could go in and get something better to wear real quick, so I got out of the car, headed up to the house, met the husband coming back down, who asked if I needed the keys whereupon I said no. When I got up on the porch I realized I did need the keys, but then saw the 2” x 3” keybox and was relieved. the keybox was located in the edge of the aluminum screen door. But then I remembered I didn’t know the code anymore and, in despair, thought great! So I put in g-r-8 and it unlocked to reveal a 10” by 4” 2-compartment box with gloves and earmuffs on the bottom and several stacks of money and keys on the top.

So I took the keys, unlocked the door, put the keys back, shut the keybox, and went inside. The parents had made some changes to the house, but I tried not to notice since they were going to proudly show me everything later. I made my way back to my old bedroom and started quickly looking through my old closet. I saw a denim jacket, a pretty polished cotton, navy-blue, business-style flowered jacket (with hood), several blouses, and miscellaneous other stuff. I finally tried on the polished cotton jacket, which was just lovely, and looked in the mirror. I was shocked to see that I had on low-cut jeans with ugly flowers on them and a sleeveless baby-doll untucked blouse, and all of it clashed horribly with the beautiful jacket. I was dismayed and turned to go back and find something better when I noticed the kitchen light was still on. (?!)

I went in and tried to turn off the light, but the switch wouldn’t work. I pushed hard on it and it finally went down and the lights went off, but as I turned away the switch went back up and the lights came back on. I tried several times to get them off but nothing worked so I was resigned to them being on and went back to the closet.

I hung the pretty jacket up and looked frantically for the denim jacket but couldn’t find it. Then I heard voices and thought oh no: burglars but couldn’t worry about them right now. My cell phone rang and it was hubby reminding me we needed to go and I said I knew it and that I would be right out.

Still searching through the clothes, I finally recognized it wasn’t burglars but my family, and my mom came into the bedroom. She was taller and quieter than I remembered and I gave her a hug and asked her if she had a pair of jeans I could wear, but she didn’t have much to say so I turned back to continue searching. Then dad came in and I gave him a hug and asked how he was. He said that he was grieving for himself because he had found out he had terminal cancer. I thought the grieving was a healthy thing to do but felt bad about it, and politely listened as he started explaining that the government building he had worked in for 14 years was found to be defective somehow -- some underground threat, like radon or something -- and as he corrected, reworded, and interrupted himself in an effort to get the story exactly right (which i vaguely recalled reading about in the paper), I felt more and more agitated since i needed to get back to finding the right clothes so I could get out of there and get back to the car for our dinner engagement.

Then I awoke.

dream 1

It was a dress rehearsal. I wore a soft buttery-yellow, floor-length dress with a ruffled v-neck and fitted waist. We had gone next door to the auditorium and were rushing around getting to the right area. I sat with my group and said my part, “This is a long bobbin upon which you can hold the rings for your curtains.” I suddenly realized we were ‘going on’ in a number of minutes and I didn’t have my change of clothes -- they were next door in my school room -- I needed to run and get them immediately.

I left the group, exited the building, and hurried to the school. All the doors were locked except the far ones and as I went into the hallway, I saw poster after poster lining the passage with students industriously working on yet more. Why were they doing this since the performance would be starting soon? No one would see the posters, would they? I rejoined my group and it occurred to me that I had missed so much instruction I wouldn’t know when to say my lines. A woman seated at a table spoke with me briefly about it saying, sotto voce, that a spotlight would wander and randomly shine on us, and that was our cue.

Fast-forward to after our old-time performance, when we quickly changed clothes and re-grouped to present our vocal performance. I looked lovely in a slim, black, sequined sheath with my jet-black jeweled earrings and black strappy heels.

Then I awoke.
