don't always believe others
i don't get what hillary is trying to do with this longer hair style. it looks really bad on her. it makes her look tired, old, worn-down. her shorter style was much more energetic and complimentary. who is her hair dresser? honestly, some of the people who make fashion decisions must not care about the end result.

how has it come to this
i am mystified by the allure of sarah palin. yes, she's pretty, but so are a lot of people.
i believe if she were elected to the presidency that she would be so in-over-her-head and that nefarious personnel would 'come to her rescue'. i think those same nefarious personnel are leading the effort to get her elected, just so they can be in charge.
regardless there seem to be a lot of people who want to see her in office. WHAT are they thinking? she has incredibly little political experience, little world-wide experience, and not much class.
barbara bush doesn't have a lot of confidence in her either.

i want to say one word to you, just one word. are you listening? plastics.
jennifer grey is pretty, nose job or not. but there is absolutely no way nadya suleman looks ANYthing like angelina jolie!
some of these people make you cringe (jocelyn wildenstein), some of them make you go 'oh yuck' (donatella), some of them make you shake your head (david gest, for more reasons than his plastic), some of them make you laugh (danielle/melan), and some of them leave you jaw-droppingly astonished (amanda, where is your husband the joker?)!
curious? here you go .... but only if you're brave or love horror movies.

the long and short of it
i've always known that older women either wear their hair cut short, or, if they have to leave it long, they braid it and wind it around on top of their head.
now i find out that hilary is starting a trend which does away with that old wisdom. she is showing that longer hair on older women is okay. the article says your cut should be based on your personality, no matter what age.
i've thought about going back to longer hair a couple of times in the last few years, but everytime i've tried letting it grow out a bit, it looks terrible. it pulls down my aura and is really depressing. so for me, shorter seems to be better. my hair has always been ultra fine and a little wavy; as i age it's getting finer but thinner, and a little wayward. the waves have given way to kinky straightness; it's just really hard to describe. and harder to subdue into a style.
oh, well. the aging process shows us all kinds of new mysteries, and fashion demands change. so be it.

we can't really know
mel gibson. i mean i've always enjoyed his films -- i haven't seen his recent ones though. but, really, what is he doing? he's catholic and had a sturdy relationship with his wife of x-years and they had seven kids, then he splits and holes up with a pianist and they have a child. you just have to wonder what people are thinking sometimes. and this picture, which makes him look tired and worn out, was taken when he was 54, i believe. i know, i know, a person shouldn't be judgemental, so okay, i won't say anymore.

too much
we watched several movies this past week. one was Striking Distance (1993) with bruce willis and sarah jessica parker. it was a who-done-it and even though it got tense at times, it's probably not worth sitting through. bruce is always fun, but the story was contrived and i got tired of seeing bruce running the gauntlet over and over and over (i wanted to slash brion james' heart out).
the other was Man On Fire (2004) with denzel washington, christopher walken, dakota fanning, mickey rourke and marc anthony. i like denzel and thought he did a good job with a strange part; dakota was great; the ONLY movie i've ever seen mickey in where he was any good at all was Sin City; marc was actually good (i thought he was just a crooner, not an actor); christopher is always interesting, but ... this was the most violent, graphic movie i've ever seen. not gory, necessarily, but showing sadism i don't really need.
yes, i love it when the bad guys don't get away! but i also like a happy ending.

#1 is blue, #2 is pink, #3 ...
i just watched a strange, to put it mildly, flick -- A Scanner Darkly, taken from a novel by Philip K. Dick, animated, starring Rory Cochrane, Robert Downey Jr, Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves, and Woody Harrelson.
the animation was excellently done, although it mainly looked like paint-by-number. be sure to watch the special feature on the animation -- those guys would be fun to work with.
i'm not familiar with the story or Dick but the adaptation by Richard Linklater told about a time in the near future when an undercover cop gets hooked by the drug culture he's supposed to be investigating.
i was more intrigued by the animation than anything else. maybe i'm just too used to disney.
cochrane's characterization was simply great -- that guy was down-and-out crazy and cochrane played the role perfectly -- you should watch it for him if nothing else. downey's character was the comic relief -- a smart guy and quick with the wit, and probably no one else would have done as well as he. ryder was very good and very pretty, too. reeves was good, but i had the most trouble reading his character. harrelson -- gees, i simply can't stand the guy no matter who he plays.
oh yes, and you will become distracted by the scramble suit.

strong opinion
lee iacocca has some interesting things to say about the present leadership in this country. or lack of leadership to be more precise.
go to borders web site -- http://www.bordersstores.com/features/feature.jsp?file=wherehavealltheleadersgone -- to read the blurb. it's from iacocca's new book Where Have All The Leaders Gone?
