daily exercise

oh those chinese. this walkway is 4,700 above sea level, which doesn't tell us how high above the ground it is, but anything higher than 3 ft is too high for me.

i couldn't walk along this thing if i were drunk and securely tied to a higher point. no can do. nope. fini.

but what does it mean?

it looks like change is afoot at work. at least in our little department. word is that in another part of the country, our department got combined with two other sections of the agency. no info on what happened to the people in the new department, but it looks like we're going to be finding out, first-hand, how it'll work. it's just conjecture at this point, to us underlings anyhow, but it won't surprise me if the action does take place, and within the next few months. and why do i think it actually will happen? because last week someone from the field office was asking what kind of stuff i did in my job. when my boss mentioned the query, she said she had told the big boss a couple of things to add to whatever list he had. 'good grief,' i said, 'two things? nobody has any idea what i do -- why didn't anyone ask me?' this was just before i went home, of course. the next morning i e-mailed her a three-page list of things i do on a regular basis. and i KNOW there were things on there she'd forgotten i was doing.

it'll be interesting to see how they handle everything. are we going to be riffed? are they going to give our jobs to officers? are there so many people in the other sections that they will get rid of some of us and spread the work around to the rest? it's long been know that our office has the most work/vehicles/people-we're-responsible-for of any office in the region, and we do our work with the least number of staff. like the big boss says, life isn't fair. i'm curious to see how it all plays out. and i just keep repeating to myself the mantra that the universe is looking out for my best interests.

behave yourself

WOW! that was an interesting 25 minutes!!

i was sitting here doing the mahjong thing and kept hearing these insistent voices. i mean, this is a quiet neighborhood. so i finally got up and looked outside to the house next door where some new people just moved in -- nothing.

so i turned my head and BAM! sitting next to my curb were three police cars complete with armed policemen one of whom was carrying a rifle with scope, two border patrol cars with agents armed and kevlared, a k-9 unit with beautiful dog, an unmarked car with serious-looking coordinator, our street blocked off with yellow tape, and in just a little bit a firetruck and a rescue unit. whoa!!

there was a 30-ish blond buxom female being hysterical in the backseat of the police car and the rescue unit was headed for her.

i couldn't tell what was going on and may not ever hear what the deal was, but several policeman were walking to a house just around the corner which i understand has been the source of husband-beating-the-wife in the past x-months. my speculation is maybe she killed him. would serve the bastard right.

some of the vehicles have gone, but some are still waiting. between the excitement and the scary factor, whoa again!

bent spear --- broken arrow

bent spear and broken arrow. you don't know those terms? that's because you are young!

and if you haven't lived during prickly times like the cold war era, the cuban missile crisis, or the gary powers incident, you probably aren't too concerned about being careful around missiles.

still, it's pretty intriguing to think that nuclear missiles could be transported, undetected, and casually held for 36 hours with no one the wiser.

like, whoa, dude. no problem. this hang-over is killing me. whaddaya mean 'be careful'? you read too many comic books, dude ..... get real.

making mistakes? do it big!

it's all about doing the job right for the boss. especially the top boss.

yesterday i had a long day which was full of learning, interruptions, and mini-snags. so when it came time to go home, i was more than ready. i turned off the computer, gathered up my things, started to walk out the door then remembered maybe i should say good-bye to the top boss. so i went into her office and said, "are you going to be here tomorrow?" she looked at me funny and said, "yes." i said, "okay then, i'll see you tomorrow." she hesitated a second then asked, "what time to do you go home?" i smiled and cheerily said, "4:30" but the back of my mind thought that was an odd question. she looked up at her wall clock. i followed her gaze and looked at the wall clock. it said 4:00. horrified, i mumbled, "what am i doing?" then "this is extremely embarrassing" then went back to my desk.

mortifaction.

stress works in subtle and mysterious ways.

my bad

ever have one of those days when you just want to push rewind and do things over?

well, check this out -- eddie griffin drove a ferrari enzo worth 1.5 million dollars around a race track on a practice run. cool, huh! yeah, except he crashed it beyond repair as he was rounding a curve. and he wasn't even the owner. uh-oh. the owner was daniel sadek and his reaction, as told in the article, was fairly classy.
