what a difference

rather than thinking these people are ugly like this, i think they look funny. hilarious, even. and i don't mean that in a bad way. after all, they posed for these pix. but rather than be turned off by them, i laughed and thought, 'good one' -- and wondered what i'd look  like. and even if they really did look like that, they're just people.

what in the world?

the husband made me a blue guy and little boy. the original was stolen from the park and i had liked it so much, i asked him to make me one for here at home. so he did and it's wonderful. it graces the patio. somewhere around here we have a camera and when i see it again, i will take a pix and post.

at supper tonight i mentioned that when it starts raining again i'd like him to take the blue guy and little boy to my office. he said if people asked about it to tell them to watch Terminus. i think i had forgotten about that, and we watched it again. totally funky. especially when the pieces of concrete start dancing. ha! and i particularly liked the comment from canoai.

and then i watched another one. it was good. and it ended much better than it could have.

the husband is wonderful!

they're just ordinary people ....

this is totally cool. i don't think i could stay with this star wars project for a whole year, but it's fun that he did. and pretty clever. and i wonder how much time of his day, was taken up with doing it? storm troopers ... at ease.

the future from the past

this is so neat. all the highways and byways and flyways and the way they get back to the top and how very clever. i wouldn't have been able to envision this thing at all. metropolis 2 is fun to watch -- those cars are going so fast and why don't they fling themselves off -- and i really, really like the music. check out what mahogany says at 5:18.

this is rich

you heard about the gal who went to a theatre in texas and was texting and they threw her out? excellent handling!

here's the article about what happened. the theatre people decided to use her phoned-in message to them (after the fact) as a way to let people know they don't tolerate that stuff. expletives not deleted.

way to handle the spoiled person! (and, if you're interested, here's a look at it from a business perspective.)

little ones

the husband and i just watched babies. i wanted to see it when it first came out, but it just didn't happen. that's actually probably a good thing though -- i laughed uproariously when hattie's dad put her on the slide and she rode her little car-thing down the slide and on away down the park until she upended into a sandpit. i don't know why i thought that was so funny. but anyone at the theatre would have given me really dirty looks and maybe called the cops thinking i was a child abuser.

that little episode aside, gosh! the husband and i are amazed that anyone in mongolia or namibia survives. or that their family jewels do, at the very least. what living conditions they have!! it wasn't unusual for the little boy in mongolia to wander among the cows, pants-less. and the kids in namibia were forever sitting in the dirt, pants-less. and the flies!

i'm just very very glad i had my kids where i did and that we have lived the way we have. blessed are we!

little bitty movies

i've seen a number of stop-action shorts in my life, and mainly i'm left thinking about the hours involved in making tiny moves, taking the shot, making more tiny moves, taking the shot. it must be painstaking.

this 7-minute short, however, is so absorbing that i didn't give tiny moves a single thought. you really have to see it -- a ski-resort in jackson hole. it's just so well-done ... litte bitty trees, little bitty people, little bitty building and mountains and ski lifts. the whole thing is riveting.

spoiler alert: it's real people.

bring it on!

oh goody. there's a new movie (just shown at sxsw) which is a sci-fi thriller dealing in parallel worlds. it looks great and as much as i don't really care for jake gyllenhaal, i want to see it. it's called Source Code and it's directed by the same guy who did Moon. i didn't want to see that one since it sounded sad and frustrating, although the performance by sam rockwell is supposed to be beyond superb, but i'm really curious about this one. the director for both, duncan jones, is david bowie's son. whooooooaaa .... what must that have been like?

moms and mars

and then there's Mars Needs Moms. i don't know about that one -- it looks like it's not quite as much my style as Rango. still .... it might be good. i guess i'll see it when it's at netflix.

wild western

did i already mention Rango? i saw it billed as an animation for adults, so i watched a couple of clips. this one is pretty dang good.

which one is the good guy?

we used to watch a lot of movies. i've gone to reading all the time, the last few years, and don't watch movies as often although the husband still watches them all the time.

yesterday he said he had one i would enjoy so we sat down with supper and watched Knight and Day. it was pretty entertaining, but i thought cameron diaz was wrong for the part. well, she was probably right for the part because she played her character well, but she's gotten too old, or had too much face surgery, or something because i kept being distracted by the look of her face. it was lumpy, or fat, or old, or something. i never could put my finger on it and hey, i don't have anything against age, but if an actor's appearance detracts from the role he/she's playing, maybe another person would be better. after all, there's no dearth of actors.

movie fun

if you're in the mood to take a ride in the way-back machine, take a look at this. it talks about the best special effects in sci-fi/fantasy, and it's a lot of fun. i never think about 2001-a space odyssey anymore, or the matrix, or ghostbusters, or hellboy. and i never saw some of those horror flicks, i mean, yuck! but this is a fun half hour or so and brings back memories of times not that long ago (20 yrs, 30 yrs, etc).

for better or worse, getting older makes everything seem like yesterday.

brush your hair

i came across this animated disney movie which just came out and it's 3-d, if you're into that -- it's called tangled and is a take on rapunzel. here are two sites you can go to and see what it's about. the first one gives you some background info on who the voices are, and the second one just gives you the preview.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40363738/ns/technology_and_science-science/

http://adisney.go.com/disneypictures/tangled/#/home/

it looks like fun! and has some sweet graphics (reminds me sometimes of pandora).

don't jump! you'll be de-rezzed!

i just saw a curious you-tube video. it's called The Apple Tree - A Tribute to The Glitch Mob.

i don't know anything about 'the glitch mob' but i thought the video was interesting. it had some great graphics, and quick-clips from about 200 movies. the movies i recognized were matrix, avatar, tron 2, and then, i guess, about a zillion horror movies, one thing that must have been freddy kruger and another one that must have been medusa.

the guy has a good touch at putting things to gether, no doubt about that. and it's 15 minutes of stuff.

but the thing that really caught my eye was the Tron video -- Tron: Legacy - "Rerezzed", music by The Glitch Mob. and it caught the eye of the Tron producer, too. this clip is only just over 2 minutes and is very easy to watch.

if you're drawn to any of that stuff, check it out. both videos can be found here.

i remember back when Tron came out that i thought it was great!! and my kids liked it and i kept thinking it was great down through the years. most people i mentioned it to had never heard of it. i never read about it and never heard it mentioned and at one point i think jeff bridges almost didn't own up to having been in it. and now the second movie is getting good buzz. validation!
