i can't stand paris

of course, no reasonable person can stand paris hilton -- the immature, uncultured, snotty slut of hollywood.

but this entry is about the country. daughter-in-law just got back from scotland/paris and said she loves the city but that the people are incredibly rude and apathetic toward foreigners. just now i read an article which said that japanese visitors to paris can suffer such mental anguish over the reality of parisians vs their before-paris perceptions, that it can cause them to need psychological treatment.

i can't recall what it was that led to my disgust of paris, but i've had it since high school and it's been reinforced in the ensuing years. in the interest of kindness it's unreasonable to think that parisians have no redeeming qualities; in the interest of reality, i don't think i've ever heard anyone rave about them, their manners, or their concern for the brotherhood of man.

if i ever take a trip to europe, i'll visit scotland, wales, england, and... uh... hmmm... well, i guess that's it.
