it seems that once again everyone is being warned there's a really bad virus out there, and this time the fbi is involved.
so i went to the recommended site and scrolled down to the first one of their 'check it with this' sites and my computer seems to be okay.
for now. sheesh.

I think computer security has matured to the point where people can expect to be reasonably safe. Passive vulnerabilities—having your computer just sitting there and someone takes it over—is probably a solved problem. The only two ways I can see being vulnerable is being tricked into clicking on a malicious link in an email, or mistakenly visiting a malicious website.
ReplyDeleteThe latter, at least, is largely diffused with browswer plugins like No Script, which by default disables all javascript. As a bonus with that one, most advertising uses flash/javascript, so I get to view most websites advertising-free!
Of course if you use Internet Explorer there's no saving you. Sorry.
