after going through the clever tunnels, we crossed a series of pigtail bridges -- structures that have delighted and amazed me since i first saw them years ago!

this looks like a bridge which ends abruptly in the rock...


but, ha! if you approach from under the bridge (are you a troll?), you curve left and back around leading you up and across the bridge and into a tunnel!!! wheeeeee...


at this bridge, if you start in the center bottom of the picture, you proceed into a right turn under the bridge, continuing the right turn toward the right side of the picture, then onto the bridge which continues the turning across the center to the left side of the picture, and then off toward the right into the unknown in the back of the center of the picture. is that cool or what?!


a few minutes after you've passed all the delightful bridges, you get your first glimpse of mt. rushmore...
