south dakota 4-d

we left the poet's cabin and headed over to hill city to have the meal we had missed on sunday. the alpine inn has a great deal: you tell them if you want your filet medium or large and that's it. there are no other choices and no decisions. well, unless you want dessert which is a major dilemma since their desserts are fabulous! but back to the supper meal -- you get a large wedge of lettuce with yummy dressing, then your steak with vegetables and baked potato. you can have wine or beer, too. like i said, the desserts are wonderful and so is the price tag. a 4-star meal at a 2-star price! that's unbeatable and there's always a waiting line.

if you go to the alpine inn for lunch, the process is different. you get a menu and have a number of choices all of which, again, are excellent. and, again, there's a line. the chef really knows her stuff and if you are ever in the hills, you definitely need to plan to eat there lunch, supper, and often! except sundays!

and the trees and leaves were just so pretty, i couldn't quit taking pictures...
